Thank you all for great tips! I took major sucky pics at the festival, and it was because I didn’t know what I was doing in the tents, and possibly, because my phone was all dusty from being stashed in my pocket all day. It was a mess down there (not in my pocket. at the festival..lol.)

I had to add a P.S., even though I know the Food & Wine Festival is over (and sad that I missed it for that matter)!

By “shoot on an angle” we don’t mean “shoot on a tilt.” We just mean angle or tip the lens of your camera so you’re looking down onto your subject. I’m short, so to get a nice 45 degree angle, this usually means I end up in an odd lunge, but that’s OK because the photos turn out great. Tilting, on the other hand, results in images that look crooked and is almost always a bad idea.

Kathryn, this is a wonderful post! I love that you included all frozen treats and not just ice cream. Still haven’t been to Lick, but my kids love that place. Of course, they love Amy’s too. And paletas? I LOVE paletas, esp tamarindo and all the tropical fruits. But I have GOT to try that fresas thing. That pic makes my mouth water. Also, what about Jim Jims? They’re at the SFC farmers market and I thought, but am not sure, if their products are made with real fruit?
