Big Day & Pie Preview

Exciting news! Today one of my recipes was featured on Foodpress.com.  If you head over to the site, you’ll see my roasted beet and goat cheese pizza on the front page, along with a link to my blog. Tonight I spent a few hours making pies for the various potlucks I have going on tomorrow.  First I made two sweet potato pies, just like the one I blogged earlier this week. My Open Pantry

Internet, meet my pantry. This hutch was a hand-me-down from my sister when we both moved earlier this year.  Since I cook so much at home, this is one of the most-used pieces of furniture in the whole apartment.  I store a lot of produce on the hutch, plus my collection of vintage glassware.  You may recognize that green cake plate and the pressed glass pieces from my wedding. A Recipe for Barclay

Almost a year ago, I adopted my dog Barclay from the Austin Humane Society.  His name was Ringo then, and he was terrified of most things. He hated busses, cats, and his crate.  He couldn’t really walk on a leash without trying to eat it.  He was even scared of cameras, so this was one of the best pictures I could get of him during that first month. Sad Day

You guys, today sucked really hard.  I work at UT, where today a 19 year old kiddo came to school and shot himself.  I was in lock down in my office for about 4 hours, waiting and waiting for news about whether everyone in our little community was safe.  We all are safe, thank goodness, except for that poor lost student. Less than a year ago, my department was affected personally by a similar violent suicide.  Of course, all the anguish and anger I’ve been feeling about that for the past 6 months came pouring up to the surface today, and I had a really hard time holding it together...
