This Week’s Meal Plan

Trying to figure out what to do with that CSA delivery? I’ve organized a week’s worth of dinner ideas that use seasonal produce from local farms.

Meal Plan, August 24-30

Today is not going very well. I’m a little emotionally hungover from Sunday’s (very successful) pie fundraiser, and I forgot to eat breakfast for the umpteenth day in a row this morning. I also just saw that Jada and Will Pinkett Smith are getting separated. I keep asking myself, if the couple can’t make it whose kid makes me want to Whip My Hair, who can?? The light at the end of my tunnel is the big, juicy watermelon waiting for me in my refrigerator today. I have plans to make salad, margaritas and sorbet with that melon...

Meal Plan, August 3 – 9

It’s way, way too hot for a picnic here in Austin, but I’m really missing the weekly picnics Rami and I were taking earlier in the summer. I’m tentatively planning for us to go to Krause Springs for some swimming on Sunday, with a twilight picnic in the mix if we can stand the heat. Other than that, we have a pretty standard week ahead. The heat wave and continued drought are really doing a number on Texas farmers, and only the most heat-tolerant plants are still producing. (Bella Verde’s bibb lettuce is hydroponic.) It...

Meal Plan 6/16-6/21

I did a little dance when I unloaded our Local Box this week. We got okra, peaches, basil and two kinds of tomatoes. It doesn’t get much summery-er than that. Rami and I made short work of the tomatoes and ate those in a sandwich already. The summer peas aren’t far behind– they’re made up in a salad in the fridge and I’ll be eating them as soon as I publish this post. Here are the ingredients I’m working with: Peaches – Caskey Orchards Okra Assorted Summer Squash – Massey Farm Basil – My Father’s...

Meal Plan 6/9 – 6/14

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eKwLBAsd-c?rel=0&w=425&h=349] Is there anything sadder than tossing a slimy, spoiled head of lettuce into the trash? Of course there is, but that’s not keeping me from wallowing in culinary pity. I forgot my cooking at home last week because of all the food blogging activities in Austin (ironic, right?) and now I’m  dreading cleaning the uneaten, spoiled food out of my kitchen. Last week’s peaches on the counter are more brown than peach, and I can’t tell whether the...
